Abstract

Acute appendicitis is the most frequently emergency attended in surgical services, representing between 13-40% of the patients attending in the emergency of surgical centers. Between 7 and 12% of the world population may develop the disease at some point of the life, most often occurs between the second and third decade of life, with a slight predominance of males over females in a ratio of 2-3:1. For more than a century the appendectomy has represented the gold standar for treatment, thanks to technological deve- lopment from 1981 open appendectomy has been replaced by the laparoscopic approach and then through natural orifices represen- ting a real breakthrough in its surgical management. Recently, several authors have proposed non surgical conservative management that have proven effective until up to 65% of the cases. Given this evidence, it is necessary to provide an up to date of the conservative management of acute appedicitis.
