Abstract
Vesicular lithiasis is one of the main health problems today, it affects millions of people(1). The objective of the research is to determine the risk factors for the development of gallstones in patients under 40 years of age who underwent cholecystectomy at the Dr. Ricardo Baquero González Hospital, during the period January 2019 - December 2021. A retrospective study was carried out that analyzed the clinical data of patients diagnosed and operated on for gallstones. The population was 365 patients and the sample of 151 patients equivalent to 41% of the population, of the sample 70% is female and 30% male. Among the risk factors, it stands out that 42% are of the family type, 40% of women use oral contraceptives and 40% of patients are overweight. From the investigation it is concluded that the cases of vesicular lithiasis are mostly associated with the female sex and family risk factors and overweight; As for women, there was a high incidence of cases of gallstones in those who used oral contraceptives. In addition, the investigation observed an increase in cases of gallstones in patients who are not within the established risk groups, such as women under 40 years of age, with normal weight and with few pregnancies; in addition, an imbalance in the intake of daily fibers and saturated fats of the patients studied.
