Abstract

Fistulas are defined as an abnormal communication between two epithelialized structures. In this case, they occur between the intestinal lumen and the surface of an open abdominal wound. It is a serious complication that usually requires some surgical intervention. Its management is quite complex and represents a challenge for the surgeon. This article presents the management with chimney-type cure that includes combined therapies such as the Rivera condom, Foley catheter, V.A.C system with whitefoam type sponge.
