Abstract

Reducing the healing time of chronic wounds (CH), with feasible alternatives, accessible and economical materials, constitutes a strategy to reduce the chronicity of these injuries. A descriptive, prospective, longitudinal, experimental, clinical trial-type study was carried out with the objective of determining the healing effect of 2% Potassium Alum in chronic wounds. The population consisted of 48 patients, the entire sample (occurrence: 100% / confidence: 99%) being stratified into two groups: the control (20) with placebo treatment and the experimental group (28) treated with Potassium Alum. All wounds received bed preparation, with surgical debridement. The systemic factors that affected healing were age ? 65 years (77% / x?: 67 years / X2=0.0001), HTN (56.2% / % / X2=0.0000) and local edema (35.4% / X2=0.5747); The experimental group, depending on the location, experienced an overall reduction in healing time (28% granulation and 24% epithelialization), with those in the abdominal region having the greatest reduction in time (Granulation: 17 days / SD: 9.06 / X2=0. 0204) (Epithelization: 26 days /SD:18.38 / X2=0.0148); Depending on the type, an overall reduction in healing time will also be observed (27% granulation and 26% epithelialization); Fournier gangrenes presented a greater decline in time (Granulation: 17.6 days / Mo: 14 days / SD: 3.04 / /X2=0.0226). Lower economic cost, no adverse reactions, and significant healing were the benefits associated with the use of Potassium Alum.
